About Epikouria
Epikouria is an independent guide to Greek food. It is unofficial and is not connected to any producer, brand, shop or public body.
What is here
144 dishes in a numbered index, each with a recipe you can scale and an estimate of nutrition. Protected products such as feta, mastiha and Kalamata olives. A fasting calendar that marks which dishes suit which days of the Orthodox year. Guides on cheese, olives, tea, coffee, honey and the Easter table, and a glossary of Greek food words.
Where Epikouria came from
Epikouria began as an online magazine about Greek food and drink. This is a new site on the same name. It does not reuse the old logo, masthead or tagline, and its guides are written fresh. Old magazine addresses redirect to the guide that now covers the subject.
How the information is made
Recipes are written for home cooks and checked for quantities and timings. Nutrition figures are estimates from ingredient averages, not laboratory values, and are no substitute for a label. Check packaging for allergens whenever you buy. Product designations are described as registered in the EU eAmbrosia register, and each product page links to its entry. Where cooks or historians disagree, the guides say so. The article on the Mediterranean diet gives the strength of the evidence and is not medical advice.
