Zorbas, 5%
Another 5% lager from the Heineken-owned brewery! This one, however, is designed to complement Greek cuisine and brewed using hops, barley and water sourced entirely from its homeland. Heavily carbonated with a soft and rich head, Zorbas is cold, refreshing and light.

Alfa Hellenic Lager, 5%
Slightly metallic aroma from yet another five per cent lager. The buttery texture fills the mouth but rapidly disappears in a tight and slightly tart finish. Hay, sweetcorn and celery can be detected. Arguably the strongest of Athenian’s beers.

Genesis Brewery
Genesis Premium Red Ale Beer, 5%
Twist-cap bottle pours an auburn coloured beer with an alluring white head. The aroma, akin to crème caramel, is followed by a creamy, vanilla and nutty taste. Unfortunately, it falls away at the finish. Could do with a more full-bodied base grain.

Genesis Premium Lager Beer, 5%
Unremarkable standard lager. Yellow, fizzy and wet. A slight skunk aroma gives way to a pleasant, inoffensive sweetness. Little hop character best served very cold. Genesis Weiss Beer, 5% Hazy and amber, this wheat-based beer thrusts forth with pear drops and lemon on the nose, banana and bubblegum in the mouth and a highly carbonated mouth feel. Ideal with a Greek salad.

Aristotle once wrote those who get drunk from beer fall on their backs and lie with their faces up, while those who get drunk from wine fall down every which way

Genesis Premium Pils, 5%
A fuller-bodied version of the Genesis lager, this Pils is slightly more astringent with a more noticeable hop-driven aroma. Crisp with a bitter finish, it’d mingle well with a plate of calamari.

Piraiki Microbrewery
Piraiki Fresh Beer Pils, 5% Piraiki Pale Ale, 5%
A note from the editor; both these organic beers were sent to Ben for tasting. Unfortunately they suffered bady in summer shipping, making it impossible for Ben to provide a fair review. e
